Hurry Up and Wait
Posted October 28, 2016 at 12:05 am

Nothing is more stressful to me than busting my ass to get something turned in to a client to meet a crazy deadline only to have to wait forever for feedback. I get it. I'm only solving one problem for them. They might have 98 more to deal with before they circle back around to me. But the delays can really stress me out more than they should. Good thing there's a climbing gym down the street to at least distract myself for a bit.

PANEL 1

10pm

JULIE

Closing time. You guys still at it?

BODIE

Client wants to see round one by tomorrow morning.

PANEL 2

JULIE

When did they tell you this?

KANE

About four this afternoon.

PANEL 3

JULIE

Good thing I have all this mapo tofu left over.

ALLY

Julie, you’re my favorite. Always have been.

PANEL 4

KANE

And done! ohmygodlemmeeatthething

BODIE

Uploading. They’ll have it for tomorrow for their meeting.

PANEL 5

ALLY

And we’ll get their feedback after that?

BODIE

In theory.

PANEL 6

19 hours later.

KANE

It’s five. Anything?

BODIE

Not yet. Maybe they have really long ass meetings.

PANEL 7

43 hours later.

ALLY

Anything?

BODIE

Let me see— nope.

PANEL 8

67 hours later.

KANE

Any—

BODIE

Nope.

KANE

Sure glad we hauled ass to get that to them on time.

PANEL 9

1 week later.

ALLY

It’s a really good thing I don’t have anxiety issues or this not-hearing-from-the-client-for-a-fucking-week thing WOULD ABSOLUTELY FUCK ME UP!!

PANEL 10

2 weeks later.

BODIE

So he wraps the car door around the fucker and—oh, we got something.

PANEL 11

BODIE

Let me see—ah. they just want some color changes.

This video is sort of a subtweet about some art twitter discourse. But I wanted to respond in video form rather than in written form so that you wouldn't misinterpret my words. Also not linking the discourse directly because I don't want to dogpile on the inspiration for my thoughts. But here are three ideas that I wanted to share with artists for us to keep in our brains as we go into the new year.
