Oh Gene, always so optimistic!

SEPTEMBER

Schools back!  Wheee!!  Or boo depending on your feelings on school.  Meh.  Surprisingly, I only have one show in September!  September 7-8, I'll be at Baltimore Comic Con which is always hella fun.  And if that wasn't enough, Saturday night, Super Art Fight returns to the Ottobar where I will be defending my SAF Championship title!  We'll be on stage with Tribe One and Adam Warrock.  It's going to be an amazing weekend and you should fucking get your ass down to Baltimore!

The weekend of 14-15, I'll be hanging out at SPX.  Don't have a table sadly.  Nor did I figure out how to do a food truck thing which bums me out.  But I'll be there to hang out with comic friends and all that stuff so come on out and support indy comics!

OCTOBER

October 3 and 5, you can catch me at the Artisphere in Roslin, VA  as an artist in residence with the DC Conspiracy.  From August 21 to November 3, members of the DC Conspiracy will be on sight at the Artisphere to demonstrate their comics process and to promote the upcoming Spring 2014 Magic Bullet anthology.  We'll be working on pieces that will appear in the anthology so that will be fun.  You can make your own comics, too!  There will be blank comic pages around for you to comic on.  Oh yeah, there's an Andy Warhol exhibit around there, too.  So check that shit out!

MOUSE OVER

If this was in color, of course those shoes in panel two would be Mako Mori red!

PANEL 1

Greg waves off Gene.

GENE

You can't know for sure. There is always hope.

GREG

No, I'm done fooling myself. I did that for the past two years.

PANEL 2

Flashback.  Greg is playing with a pair of small shoes while Ally looks on.

GREG (Caption)

Things were great, you know. We were living together, making plans. Family plans. It was comfortable.

PANEL 3

Greg stares stunned at his computer while Ally gives him a big hug.

GREG

And then this dream job comes along. I would be on the road for a month. She was so supportive and I thought, "Yeah, we're good. This will be easy."

PANEL 4

A stylized version of Greg stares off into the distance while a car, train, and plane fly behind him.

GREG (Caption)

One month became two. Then four. Then eight. Before I knew it, two years had flown by. It felt like no time at all. I was wrapped up in my dream.

PANEL 5

Alone in bed, Ally paws at the empty pillow beside her.

GREG (Caption)

But it was all too real for her. Two years felt like two years.

This video is sort of a subtweet about some art twitter discourse. But I wanted to respond in video form rather than in written form so that you wouldn't misinterpret my words. Also not linking the discourse directly because I don't want to dogpile on the inspiration for my thoughts. But here are three ideas that I wanted to share with artists for us to keep in our brains as we go into the new year.
