I've done a handful of galleries and they typically ask for 50%-60% percent of sale price. Those percentages always sounded a bit high to me. But when I considered that I'm not terribly well known in gallery circles and that my work was getting shown in front of an audience I wouldn't normally have access to, 50% didn't sound all that terrible.
Of course, I know jack shit about gallery shows. I don't do enough of them to really know when I'm being ripped off or not. Also, what kind of work sells. Actually, that's a general problem that I have.

He just wants forty percent of any art that gets sold.

That’s awesome. I figured locking down a venue would be our biggest headache.
