When you hear the words "two naked girls on a couch together," I bet no one ever pictures a scene like this!
MAKER FAIRE QUICK ROUNDUP
Much like SPX reignited my love for my industry,
Maker Faire rekindled my on-again off-again desire to do more 3D modeling. It takes a lot more time and effort than comicking, but with the rapid growth of the desktop 3D printing scene, I'm more interested in seeing my creations in tangible form more than ever.
3D printers were definitely the star of this year's show. There was an entire section of the grounds dedicated to them with about twenty different companies selling their own models. I was astonishing! Hell, I even saw booth babes wearing 3D printed breast plates (well, fancy nipple covers really).
Of all the companies I saw,
Printrbot emerged as the one I'll be keeping an eye on. They are selling a kit that you can assemble for $299 which, as far as I can tell, is the most affordable 3D printer kid on the market. Once assembled, it will print an object within a 3.5"x3.5"x3.5" area and I would have probably brought one home with me had my friend not picked one up for himself. I foresee sending lots of model files over to see how far we can push the thing.
I would absolutely love, LOVE, to start making Nomling toys. And I think a 3D printer would help me at least make the master models that I could make molds of for resin toys. I can sculpt a lot of organic shapes, but when it comes to precision and symmetry, I'm a lost cause.
OH! And I learned how to solder!!! Kinda. Well, I soldered a thing and it works and I didn't burn off my finger tips so I guess that's learning. Which means soon I will be making all sorts of LED things and guitar effects and hopefully not blow up my amp.
