Comparing Prospects

I taught children martial arts for a number of years and though I did have to deal with a handful of discipline problems, for the most part the kids were pretty manageable. The parents were a different story. I was eventually able to train the parents at my class to just accept my word as law, but when I was starting out, a lot of parents questioned my methods.

In hindsight, it's perfectly understandable. I wasn't much older than the children I was teaching. And even though I had a pretty intimidating colored belt, how were they to know that I was qualified to yell at their kids. There were many times when I wished I could just yell at the parents and tell them, "Hey, maybe your kid is a fucking idiot! You ever think of that?!" But I always took what they complained about to heart. Or at least gave them the impression that I did.

Kinda miss teaching kids. Always had a lot of fun scaring them to death.

This video is sort of a subtweet about some art twitter discourse. But I wanted to respond in video form rather than in written form so that you wouldn't misinterpret my words. Also not linking the discourse directly because I don't want to dogpile on the inspiration for my thoughts. But here are three ideas that I wanted to share with artists for us to keep in our brains as we go into the new year.
