Last Saturday, the LGBT community got a nice stocking stuffer for Xmas, the repeal of the U.S. military's Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy. Under the policy, service men and women who are gay were forced to hide their sexual orientation for fear of discharge from their chosen service. Imagine, a voluntary military force denying loyal citizens the right to fight for our freedoms simply because of who they love. Now that Don't Ask, Don't Tell has been repealed, our fighting men and women no longer have to fear persecution from their own service. As it fucking well should be!

The repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell is essential to protecting the civil rights of homosexuals in America. But it's a stocking stuffer. The real gift that the LGBT community wanted this year and has wanted for decades is the right to marry.

It sickens me to think that there was a time in this country when I would have been prevented from marrying my wife because she's White and I'm Asian. Now, it's no problem. Ethnic minorities have been where the LGBT community has been. But it's worse because by now we aught to know better. We aught to know that discrimination based on things we cannot change about ourselves is the highest crime against humanity. We aught to know better. Minorities aught to know better. Mister President, you fucking well aught to know better. Denying the LGBT community the right to marry is the same as denying Black, Asian, Hispanic, and White people the right to cross marry. It's wrong. Dead. Wrong.

It will take some time for the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell to take full effect. My hope is that this will signal a greater change for the LGBT community. If one of the most conservative institutions in our nation doesn't give two shits about who you sleep with, it's only a matter of time before the rest of the country follows suit. I hope, I pray, I expect to see same sex marriage legalized in the next two years. Or sooner.
